“Nothing is a powerful as an Idea whose time has come”                                                                      Victor Hugo

The Ideas College is an Alternative Provision Free School for creatively gifted young people who are not achieving in the conventional education system. The Ideas College uses creativity, real life creative industry challenges and a participative pedagogy to reverse underachievement by 13-16 year olds in Key Stage 4 who are currently outside mainstream education. The creative curriculum will aim to equip pupils with a level 2 in English and maths and provide them with guaranteed progression paths into work, primarily in the emerging digital and creative economies. Creativity is at the heart of everything that we do.

The pupils will be nurtured in a creative environment which provides the care, encouragement and direction, along with access to top quality learning experiences, enabling them to thrive. Additionally, each pupil will be supported to achieve progression to A levels and A Level equivalent courses in further and higher education colleges or an apprenticeship and other suitable routes for progression. They will be equipped with key life skills and the awareness and preparation necessary to secure quality jobs in the creative and digital industries. At the same time they will be encouraged to become active and responsible members of society through collaborative community arts projects led by the students.

We will respect our pupils and motivate them through the challenge of high expectations at every level. We will expect pupils to achieve the equivalent of 5 GCSE A*-C grades including Maths, English and Media Studies. With sufficient support and a bespoke curriculum matched to individual needs, students will achieve success and be encouraged to make informed choices and decisions about their future.
