About Us

The Ideas College is an Alternative Provision Free School for students who will benefit from a different and more creatively themed curriculum.

The Ideas College uses real life creative industry challenges and a participative pedagogy to inspire 13-16 year olds in Key Stage 4 who are currently outside mainstream education. The curriculum will aim to equip pupils with a level 2 in English and Maths and provide them with guaranteed progression paths into work, primarily in the emerging digital and creative economies. Creativity is at the heart of everything that we do.

Students will be nurtured in an environment which provides the care, encouragement and direction, along with access to top quality learning experiences, enabling them to thrive. Each student will be supported to progress to A levels or equivalent level courses in further education colleges, university, apprenticeship or other industry training. They will be equipped with key life skills and the awareness and preparation necessary to secure quality jobs in the creative and digital industries. At the same time they will be encouraged to become active and responsible members of society through collaborative community arts projects led by the students.

The curriculum will be supported by a range of practical workshops, mentoring and work placements. The work placement and mentoring programmes will provide an opportunity to work with our partners who are major players in the media and communication industry.

Qualified staff will respect students and motivate them through the challenge of high expectations at every level. We will expect students to achieve the equivalent of 5 GCSE A*-C grades including Maths, English, a modern or community language, art and Media Studies.  With our partner schools students will be able to access a full progress 8 provision. With sufficient support and a bespoke curriculum matched to individual needs, students will achieve and be encouraged to make informed choices and decisions about their future.

The college will be located in South London, serving the boroughs of Greenwich, Lewisham, Lambeth, Southwark, Bexley, Tower Hamlets, Hackney and Newham.
